Released in 2023 to commemorate Mary Seacole.
For nearly 100 years, Mary Seacole’s unwavering dedication to helping others went unrecognized, however this coin finally pays tribute to her incredible nursing efforts during the Crimean War. She worked with Thomas Day to set up the ‘British Hotel’ based near the Crimean battlefields to help sick and injured soldiers from both sides of the conflict.
This coin was designed in collaboration with ‘The Mary Seacole Trust’ and features a design based on an original photograph of Mary Seacole from the 1870s.
