A Jersey £2 coin commemorating the 25th anniversary of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) founded in 1961.

 

The WWF is an international non-governmental organisation that works in the field of wilderness preservation and the reduction of human impact on the environment.

 

This coin features a Mauritius pink pigeon which was first brought to Jersey in 1977 as part of a breeding program to increase numbers in the wild. The program was started by Gerald Durrell of the Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust and is still in operation today.

Please note the production of this coin is a different design to standard bi-metallic £2 coin which has been in effect since 1997. This coin is the same size as a standard £5 coin/commemorative Crown
