Commemorating the 10th European Football Championship hosted by England. The coin is made of single metal, based on the design of the historic 'double soverign' and became known as the 'gold £2 coin.' This is the final commemorative gold £2 coin issued prior to bi-metallic £2 coins entering circulation in 1997.
