A new £2 coin collection from Guernsey commemorating quirky British traditions.
Wonderfully Weird. Irresistibly British. Unmistakably Collectable.
From chasing cheese down hills to flipping pancakes mid-run, some traditions could only have come from Britain. Now, you can celebrate the quirks that make us proudly British with the Quirky British Traditions £2 Collection — a brand-new set of five coins that honour the wonderfully weird customs woven into our national character.
The complete set includes:
- Cheese Rolling – Competitors fling themselves downhill in pursuit of a wheel of Double Gloucester cheese in this gloriously chaotic Gloucestershire tradition.
- Maypole Dancing – Ribbons, rhythm, and community spirit combine in this joyful May Day custom, a living thread from our medieval past.
- Morris Dancing – A jingle of bells, a clash of sticks, and a whirl of rosettes: this timeless folk dance is the heart and soul of village festivals.
- Pancake Racing – Since 1445, apron-clad racers have dashed through Olney’s streets flipping pancakes mid-run—because why not?
- Bonfire Night – Every 5th of November, we light bonfires and fireworks to mark the failed Gunpowder Plot—a uniquely British blend of rebellion and revelry.
*These coins have not entered general circulation in the UK - only 2025 sets produced*
