2026 has already been a busy year for new coin releases, this blog post revisits the annual Royal Mint designs and a preview of what's still to come

DEFINITIVES

KING CHARLES: FLORA & FAUNA

In January the King Charles Flora and Fauna definitive set first released in 2023 was re-released for a fourth successive year in the Royal Mint Annual Coin Set. Some designs may be released into general circulation, depending on demand but mintage figures will not be confirmed until next year.

COMMEMORATIVES

2026 ANNUAL SET

Alongside the definitive annual set, the Royal Mint also selected five brand new designs for their annual commemorative set including;

• Queen's 100th Birthday £5

• The King's Trust 50p (not released individually - only in annual sets)

• Grand Prix Centenary 50p

• HMS Beagle £2

• 200 Years of ZSL £2

  

DUCHESS OF HAMILTON £2

Built in Built in 1938 for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway The Duchess of Hamilton quickly became one of Britain’s most recognisable locomotives – combining speed, power and striking design. This £2 coin commemorates the locomotive that defined the golden age of British rail, synonymous with innovation, elegance and speed.

50p COIN COLLECTIONS

THE LORD OF THE RINGS

The first coin in a brand new seven coin collection to be released between 2026-2028. The series commemorates 25 years since the release of the first Lord of the Rings film (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.) 

This coin pays tribute to the One Ring. The reverse design depicts the blazing Eye of Sauron set within the Ring, encircled by ancient Elvish script.

100 YEARS OF WINNIE THE POOH

A brand new three coin collection commemorating 100 years of AA Milne's tales of One Hundred Acre Wood.

The three coin series each represents a different theme from the stories whilst depicting the ever popular characters.

GAME OF THRONES

A brand new collection celebrating 15 years of the smash hit TV show, Game of Thrones. The two coins are inspired by the two key themes from the show: Fire and Ice.
