This £2 coin was released by Pobjoy Mint in 2021 on behalf of the British Antarctic Territory to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty – recognised as one of the most successful international agreements, to ensure Antarctica remains a “natural reserve, devoted to peace and science”. It came into effect on 23 June 1961 and since been accepted by a total 54 nations.
