2026 500 Years of the Crown £5

For 500 years, the Crown has been one of Britain's most iconic and recognisable coins.

First issued in 1526 during the reign of Henry VIII, it has evolved from a circulating Tudor gold coin into The Royal Mint's flagship commemorative issue.

The £5 coin itself was known as the 'Commemorative Crown' until 1990.

Now, to mark this historic milestone, The Royal Mint has released a brand-new official £5 coin.

The striking reverse design pays tribute to the Crown's Tudor origins.

Featuring a special decorative border on the obverse adorned with five roses, each representing a century of the Crown's evolution

*Not released into general circulation*

Obverse: Martin Jennings King Charles Portrait with special border (as above)

Reverse: Featuring a crowned Tudor rose, a rose vine, and the cyphers of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. (designed by Timothy Noad)
