2024: The Year in Coins

Updated: Sep 19

2024 saw yet another busy year for UK coin production with a large number of commemorative coin sets and designs.

Despite this no commemorative coins entered circulation this year and the only definitive coins to be circulated (Atlantic Salmon 50p & Bees £1) were dated 2023.

This blog post takes a look back at the coins released in 2024:

THE DEFINITIVES

The second year of the King Charles Flora and Fauna definitives. The coins featured the same designs as those released in 2023 but unlike the inaugural collection, the 2024 set did not contain privy marks

In September 2025 the Royal Mint Annual Trading Report*, confirmed that no 2024 coins had entered circulation:

"Sufficient stock of UK circulating coins across our banks and post offices meant that, for the first time, we received no UK coin orders from His Majesty’s Treasury (‘HM Treasury’). However, producing the UK’s coinage remains at our core, and we will continue to support demand as required."

For the time, the coins are only available to purchase as part of the BUNC Annual Set, also sold individually at www.romileycoins.com
